Born and raised in Keene, summered in Spofford;
in 1987 built home on third-generation Calef
land in Spofford, where he still lives.
While in college worked for WKNE in Keene on
weekends and for WGBH television (Channel 2) in
Boston during the school week.
After college was a news reporter and later the
News Director for WKVT Radio in Brattleboro; was
also Chief Engineer and Broadcast Operations
Director during his 20-years at the station.
Served in the volunteer roles of Executive
Director, Producer and Business Manager with the
Miss Vermont Scholarship Pageant (Miss America
Program) in the 1970s.
Was elected to the Brattleboro Select Board for
three terms in the early 1980s.
Was founding volunteer president of the Keene
Chapter of Greyhound Pets of America in 1985.
Beginning in 1993 served as Publicity Director,
then Operations Manager and Executive Vice
President during 12 years full- and part-time at
Hinsdale Greyhound Park; in later years was also
responsible for telephone, video broadcast and
computer activities at the track.
Over the years built and owned a number of
businesses, such as Vanguard Productions,
Vanguard Telephone Systems, Vanguard Copy Center
and Brattleboro's First Cinema (Now Kipling
Cinema). In 1986 he started and still operates
C & F Associates, which offers business
consultation and services in management,
information systems, and Web and Internet
marketing.
